The flat, occupied by one Kundan Kumar, was used for running a coaching institute. Kundan was arrested for impersonating last year. The live bombs found were diffused.
IG, Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), Kundan Krishnan said the explosives used in the bomb had ammonium nitrate. He said Kundan's mother is a teacher at Ekangarsarai in Nalanda district and his father is in the same profession in Munger. Police could not ascertain Kundan's link with Maoists or any terrorist group. Generally, ammonium nitrate is used by Maoists and terrorist outfits and that prompted the NIA and IB to probe the case and ascertain any similarity with that of Patna, Gaya or Burdwan blasts. The two central agencies were yet to reach any conclusion. "Pipe bombs were used in Patna blasts while the Monday explosives were stacked in milk containers," Krishnan told TOI while explaining the difference.
The IG said prima facie the timer used in Monday explosion did not match with that of Patna or Bodh Gaya blasts. "It is yet to be clear whether Kundan was simply experimenting with the bomb when it exploded or he had brought it from somewhere else. However, we are probing the case from different angles because of ammonium nitrate found in the bombs," Krishnan said.
